New Hotels Opening Soon in Costa Rica's Guanacaste Province

Costa Rica's North Pacific Guanacaste province is set to see some dramatic growth in the near future.  Construction will center around the Liberia airport and nearby Papagayo Bay, where the Costa Rican government has designated large scale tourism development.

According to the national newspaper La Nacion, Costa Rica's tourism institute ICT has affirmed that "six major projects will be opening in Guanacaste starting from the end of this year."

Hotels expected to open in the 2013/2014 season include:

  • Vista del Mar - 58 rooms
  • Andaz Papagayo -153
  • Meliá Papagayo - 379 rooms
  • Dreams Las Mareas - 447 rooms
  • Boutique Hotel Enjoy Group- 86 rooms
  • Courtyard by Marriott - 360 rooms

The positive for the Tamarindo/Flamingo area is that, while this tourism expansion will draw potential investors, the major hotel and commercial development will be situated 1 hour to our north.

Although our area is framed by two of the finest luxury resorts in Costa Rica - Hacienda Pinilla and Reserva Conchal - the basic character of the Tamarindo and Flamingo area will remain typically Costa Rican.  Restrictions on construction due to the Las Baulas National Park, giant leatherback turtle nesting sites, and protected estuaries will help us to retain our natural eco-lifestyle and relaxed beach village atmosphere.
